The fourth part of the Star Decals Vietnam theme keeps to a single particular modification, the M113 carrier with the T50 turret. The set brings markings for a model in 1:35 scale and it is an accessory that turns a model into the vehicle of a particular unit. The model itself is not included.
The Australian units used the M113 carrier not only to move infantry but also as fire support for their own sections. That is exactly what the light rotating T50 turret with machine gun armament served for, and with it an ordinary carrier was raised to a vehicle able to deliver effective fire on the move as well as from a halt. The result was a machine that looks markedly different from a bare hull with a single machine gun at the commander's hatch, and among modelers it is one of the most rewarding versions of the whole M113 family.
The turret is rounded and small, so decals hold on it less well than on the flat hull sides. Use a softener and press with a soft brush from the center toward the edges. Work carefully above all around the machine gun barrels and the sighting elements, because they are thin and break off easily when the model is handled during the laying of the markings. It helps to leave the turret separate from the hull until the last moment and to fit it only once the matte varnish has dried.
