The Balkan Peacekeepers decal set for the French VAB 4x4 in 1:35 scale from Star Decals covers the markings of the UN mission and the later IFOR lineup.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set of Star Decals in 1:35 scale from the Balkan Peacekeepers range concentrates on a single type, the French VAB armored personnel carrier in its 4x4 form, and on two successive periods of its deployment, which the name denotes as UN and IFOR. This is an accessory to a finished model.
The VAB was designed as an armored personnel carrier to carry a squad under its own power, and in its four-wheeled form it is shorter and nimbler than the more often built six-wheeled version. In the Balkans it went through two distinct stages: first service under the UN banner, when the vehicles ran in a prominent pale coat with large recognition markings, and from the end of 1995 in the IFOR lineup, where they returned to camouflage and a different system of marking. This transformation is interesting for a modeler in its own right, because two models that come across entirely differently arise from the same vehicle.
Decide on one of the two stages before spraying the base color: the pale coat of the UN mission calls for a different procedure from a multicolor camouflage. With the pale variant spray thin covering layers over an evened-out base and apply the markings onto a gloss intermediate layer; with the camouflage, on the other hand, it pays to place the markings so that they do not carry over the edge between two shades. A matte varnish will unify the surface at the end, and with both variants the patina holds above all around the wheels and the underside of the body.
The set serves as an accessory to a model. A kit and paints are not in it.
