A precisely turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale that replaces the plastic part in the kit of the British 57 mm anti-tank gun, that is the so-called 6-pounder. The form corresponds to the Mk.IV version with a ball muzzle brake. It is neither a model nor a kit: it is a single replacement part that is fitted into a model already bought. The main advantage of a metal barrel is a perfectly round and open bore with no parting seam and a straight axis, which with a two-part plastic piece are practically unattainable.
The 6-pounder anti-tank gun is a British weapon of 57 mm caliber that replaced the weaker 2-pounder during the Second World War. The versions designated Mk.IV have a longer barrel than the earlier ones, which raised the muzzle velocity and the penetration of the shell. The gun served both in towed form on a wheeled carriage and as the armament of armored vehicles, and it was also produced under license outside Britain. The muzzle brake leads part of the gases out to the sides and reduces the recoil: on a model it is a prominent and clearly visible detail on which any inaccuracy of shape shows at once.
First cut the plastic barrel off at the point where the part is thickest and the cut will stay hidden, and level the surface with a file to a right angle, because whether the metal barrel will sit straight depends on how square the cut is. Degrease the metal part with alcohol or a degreaser before gluing, because the remains of the turning emulsion will reliably keep both glue and paint from adhering. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, or with two-part epoxy for a heavier piece, which gives you time to align the axis. Apply a primer meant for metal before painting, otherwise the finish will come off during handling. It pays to darken the mouth of the bore slightly and to dust the barrel with pigments working back from the muzzle, so that it matches the rest of the model.
