This set from the ELEFANT brand turns a model of the German Pz.Kpfw III medium tank into the Bergepanzer III recovery vehicle. The name gives the form as pattern 1, so it is one of the shapes this rework took. It is not a model of the vehicle in its own right but a set of parts that are fitted onto a base kit.
The Bergepanzer III recovery vehicle came about during the Second World War by reworking Pz.Kpfw III tank hulls that came back from the battlefield to the workshops. The turret was removed and in its place was left an open or only simply covered space for the crew and their equipment. The vehicle then served to tow damaged equipment away, to carry spare parts and for auxiliary work with the tank units, where every machine saved was worth more than a new delivery. That is exactly why the individual reworks differed from one example to the next, and why modelers enjoy treating them as a diorama subject with a crew of fitters.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before fitting them and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the remains of the sprue gates off with a fine-toothed saw, true the surfaces up with a file, and do any dry sanding with respiratory protection. Choose a glue suited to the material of the parts and keep dry-fitting as you go; you will see at once where the mating surface needs adjusting. The painting starts from a primer coat, on which both the camouflage shades and the later dust and oil stains hold well.
