This Black Dog diorama base combines a section of terrain with the wreck of a light tank. A damaged vehicle does for a scene what a model on its own cannot: it carries the time that has passed and gives your own build a counterweight.
The light tank designated Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) comes from a prewar design developed in Czechoslovakia. After 1939 it became one of the most used light tanks of the early period of the Second World War, and its chassis went on serving long afterward as the basis for a whole family of derived vehicles. Its low silhouette and riveted surfaces make it a rewarding object for diorama work.
Let the contrast do the work: the wreck as a static, dark and crumbling element, your model as a whole object with sharp edges. Keep the gap between them on the larger side, so that the silhouettes do not overlap and both stay readable in profile.
On damaged metal, layering has proved itself: a dark base, brown-orange patches applied with a sponge and finally a thin lightening of the edges. Leave the terrain around it calmer, so that the eye travels to the focal point, and even the transition between the ground and the metal out with dust.
