An item from the Diorama-Base line of the brand RT-Diorama in 1:35 scale. The subject is a German town house, that is the kind of building you know from the historic cores of Central European towns. It is not a kit of a vehicle or of an aircraft: it is a scenic element that makes up the ground and the backdrop for figures and equipment in the same scale.
Town buildings are among the most rewarding diorama subjects. A house gives a scene vertical mass, a clearly legible scale and a natural frame into which a vehicle, a gun or a group of figures can be placed. A street facade with window openings and a transition into the paving offers corners that will give a scene a story, from a quiet composition in the rear to a dramatic moment of street fighting in the Europe of the 1940s.
Keeping one main subject and letting the rest of the area breathe proves itself. Equipment turned at an angle to the facade looks livelier than parallel to the edge of the base and opens a view of the side and the front to the viewer. Lay the figures out so that their gaze leads the eye to the main element of the scene. Before the final seating, photograph the composition from the eye height of the figures: the picture will reveal disproportions that you will not notice looking from above. A unified tonal key of the whole scene and thought-out lighting in a display case have a great influence on the final impression as well.
