A fence is one of the most effective tools of diorama composition. It leads the eye along a scene, separates public space from private and above all gives a scene a clear boundary, so that it does not end in an empty edge of the base. It is also an element that gives away the character of a place at once: a regular fence panel between piers reads as a city street or a complex, whereas the same part with the line broken and a section knocked down makes it clear that something swept through. Because fence parts can be repeated, a line of any length can be put together out of them.
