RYE FIELD MODEL 1:35 F.G.1250 IR Scope kit is an accessory set of the German infrared night sight for models of late-war vehicles.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set in 1:35 scale represents the German infrared night device designated F.G.1250 together with its supporting structure. It is not a vehicle model but an accessory with which a finished tank kit is equipped.
The F.G.1250 infrared outfit was one of the German army's attempts to extend combat operations into the night. It consisted of a searchlight with a filter that lit the surroundings with invisible radiation and of an image converter on an arm by the commander's cupola. Its use concerned late versions of medium tanks and in combat practice it remained limited both by the number of sets built and by the dependence on accompanying vehicles with a power source. For a modeler that makes it all the more attractive a subject, because the silhouette of a turret with a large searchlight is unmistakable.
On the large searchlight everything depends on the lens: put a dark color underneath and cover it with a gloss varnish so that it looks like glass. The supporting arm is delicate, so glue it only after the turret has been fitted and let the joint cure properly. In color the device usually blends in with the vehicle, and only the metal brackets take light chipping on the edges.
Without a vehicle model that is already built the set has no use on its own.
