An add-on weapon set in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Special Hobby. It is neither a vehicle kit nor a figure: it is a separate armament item meant to fill out dioramas, figures and the loads of vehicles. Small things like these are exactly what make a modern scene believable: without the right armament a figure comes across as a generic character, while with it the unit and the task are clear at once.
The FGM-148 Javelin is an American portable anti-tank missile system. It consists of two separate parts: a reusable launch and sighting unit with a thermal imaging sight and a single-use launch tube with the missile. The system works on the principle that the gunner locks the target on before firing and, once the shot is away, the missile flies on by itself; the typical mode for it is top attack, in which the missile climbs and comes down on the target from above. The characteristic silhouette with its angular unit and cylindrical tube is recognizable on a diorama at first glance.
Wash the small parts first in warm soapy water. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel over a tray, so that a small part does not fly away, because with weapons of this size a lost part is practically irreplaceable. Sand wet and with protection for your breathing. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Begin the painting with a primer, then a matte base color; modern armament tends to be matte, with a minimum of sheen. Keep the weathering restrained, with chipping on the edges and fine dust in the recesses. When you add the set to a figure, check the grip of the hands before you glue anything permanently.
The set is an accessory, not a stand-alone model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
