A figure set from Dynamo-Models in 1:35 scale out of the French Resistance series, that is from the circle of figures of the French resistance movement of the Second World War. The name designates this particular figure by the name Henri. It is a diorama accessory, not a vehicle kit - it serves to bring a scene with a vehicle, a street corner or a country building to life.
The French Resistance was made up of civilians who joined the resistance in ordinary civilian clothing, with no uniform dress and no uniform equipment. It is precisely that which makes the series interesting for a modeler: against uniformed figures it offers a civilian silhouette that places a scene in the setting of occupied France at once. Dynamo-Models builds the whole series around named figures, so the individual figures can be put together into scenes of relationships in which the figures communicate with each other.
If you paint the set yourself, start with thin layers of undercoat so that the features of the face and the folds of the cloth stay legible. With civilian clothing it pays off to choose mismatched, rather faded tones - a different shade for each item, no uniform coloring. Build the face from a base skin tone through the shadows to the highlights, and leave the eyes for the very end. Oil washes and a gentle dry brush will bring out the texture of the fabric. Try the figure dry in the target scene before you settle it for good - the stance has to suit the vehicle and the terrain alike.
