An injection-molded plastic kit of the German half-track armored personnel carrier Sd.Kfz.251/1 in 1:35 scale from Tamiya. The model captures the characteristic angular hull with its open troop compartment and opening rear doors. The kit includes a decal sheet and soldier figures, which help bring the finished scene to life.
The Sd.Kfz.251, built among others in the Hanomag works, was the most widely used German half-track armored personnel carrier of the Second World War — about 15000 were made. Its task was to carry infantry to the battlefield at a speed matching the tanks, and so to keep up the pace of the Blitzkrieg. The basic /1 transport version carried a squad of soldiers with full equipment; a whole series of specialized variants grew out of the same chassis. The vehicle combined steered front wheels with tracked running gear at the rear.
On a half-track, pay attention to the running gear — assemble and seat the front wheels and the rear tracks before you finally close up and paint the hull. It pays to paint and weather the open interior before the upper parts go on. Lay the base coat down with an airbrush; realistic weathering is completed with dark washes into the recesses, picking out the rivets and edges, and dust and mud pigments on the tracks and running gear. Paint the figures separately and fit them last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
