A set of injection-molded plastic figures in 1:35 scale from the Japanese company Tamiya showing a German machine gun crew of the Second World War. It is not a model of a vehicle or an aircraft: these are figures meant to bring a diorama or a display scene to life. Besides the figures themselves, the set holds the machine gun armament and the matching equipment. In 1:35 scale they can be combined with tanks and armored vehicles from Tamiya and other makers.
The machine gun was the backbone of the squad firepower of the German infantry in the Second World War. The general-purpose MG 34 and MG 42 guns were used in two roles: as a light machine gun on a bipod within the infantry squad, and as a heavy machine gun on a folding mount (a lafette), which allowed accurate and sustained fire at longer ranges. The crew was made up of several men: the gunner, the loader feeding the belts and further soldiers carrying ammunition, spare barrels and the mount. It is exactly this teamwork that the figure set captures.
Cut the parts from the sprue with side cutters and clean the sprue gate remnants with a scalpel and fine sandpaper: on figures, clean seams are the key, because every visible line on a uniform breaks the illusion. Glue with a liquid cement for plastic applied into the seam with a fine brush. Apply a thin primer before painting. Build the uniforms on a base color, then deepen it with a dark wash in the folds and lighten it with a dry brush on the edges of the cloth. Finish the faces and hands separately with layered flesh tones. Bring out the weapons with a dark steel shade.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
