The 2A5 version carries the shorter of the two barrels found on the Leopard 2, and confusing it with the later long rendition is among the most frequent mistakes on models. This item matches the length of forty-four calibers, that is, what the vehicle actually had. Pimp My Miniatures makes it as a separate element to complete your own kit.
The upgrade to the 2A5 standard brought the most conspicuous change in the shape of the turret. Sloped add-on plates appeared on its front, which gave the vehicle its characteristic wedge outline and markedly improved its resistance to shaped charge projectiles. The commander's station was also modified and electric turret drive was introduced. The main weapon, however, stayed at its original length, because the longer rendition came only with the following modification. That is precisely why two otherwise similar barrels are distinguished in this family of tanks.
The barrel proves best fitted after the turret has been painted, so that the surface is not damaged. Check the mounting in the mantlet dry and tune it if need be. The thermal sleeve of modern guns has a more matte surface than the surrounding armor and in service shows rubbed-on dirt toward the muzzle, which is a rewarding target for restrained weathering.
Without the matching kit and paints you cannot use the part, and the package does not include them.
