A corner is a universal building block in a city diorama. Two walls meeting at a right angle close a scene off on two sides while leaving the third open to the viewer's gaze. The corner of a building creates two differently lit surfaces, which is the simplest way to bring a display case to life. A model or a figure placed in the corner looks settled rather than put down. A corner also naturally suggests the street continuing beyond the scene, so the viewer imagines a larger space than the one you are actually building.
Work from the top down. First even the whole structure out in one base shade, then play the surfaces out with thin glazes toward warmer and cooler registers. Weather the lower areas at the ground more darkly, because that is exactly where moisture and dirt gather. The sharp corners, on the other hand, should be run over with a lighter color applied with an almost dry brush, so that the edge jumps away from the surface.
