This is an add-on conversion set in 1:35, not a model of the vehicle on its own. It serves to give a model of the American HMMWV multipurpose cross-country car the shape of the conversion designated Julkat, a machine rebuilt for reconnaissance and special operations. The set is made by the Czech brand Black Dog, which has long concentrated on accessories, cargo and conversions for models of military vehicles.
The HMMWV is an American multipurpose car introduced in the 1980s as a replacement for older light cross-country vehicles. It proved itself thanks to its large suspension travel, its wide track and the possibility of building a whole family of versions on one chassis, from an ambulance through a weapons carrier to a heavily armored form. The Julkat conversion belongs to the group of rebuilds meant to prepare a vehicle for long independent movement away from base: an open layout with a protective frame, weapon mounts and plenty of room for the crew's kit and supplies. It is associated above all with Danish units deployed in Afghanistan.
A conversion of this type comes off best in a diorama or a vignette, where it can be seen how the crew lives in the vehicle. It pays to set the kit apart in shade from the body, because faded textiles and straps read differently from painted sheet metal. Dust settled in the lower areas of the vehicle and fine shadows into the recesses will then tie the whole scene together. Plan the arrangement of the load in advance from photographs of the real subject, so that the access points and the weapon mounts stay clear.
