1:35 Israel army tank crew N°1

Israel army tank crew N°1 in 1:35 scale

A figure of a member of an Israeli army tank crew from Black Dog model, 1:35 scale. The designation No. 1 sets it apart from the second pose and from the group version, which the manufacturer makes as items of their own. With armored hardware a crew is the detail without which a vehicle looks parked up in a scene.

A crew turns a vehicle into a scene

A figure beside an armored vehicle does not have to be doing anything dramatic; it is enough for it to lean on something or hold something. It is precisely a calm pose that reads the scene as a halt rather than as staging. Try several places before you glue the figure: on the hull, at the side of the vehicle, on a fender. Each of them changes where the viewer looks first, and the difference between good and bad seating is often only a few millimeters.

The details the scene rests on

With tank figures the character is carried by the overalls and their folds, not by colorful variety. Choose a muted base shade, then, and work with shadows in the bends rather than with pronounced transitions. Dust on the clothing is more convincing in bands where the figure touches the vehicle. Match the footwear and the bottoms of the trouser legs to the shade of the terrain, and apply the same tone lightly to the areas of the vehicle the figure leans on.

Where to place it

• in a scene with an armored vehicle in 1:35 scale
• at a halt of a crew beside their hardware
• as one figure completing a diorama already under way
• with models focused on Middle Eastern hardware
