A set of two round manhole covers for a diorama in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit but a small scenic element that is set into the surface of a roadway or a pavement. It is exactly such details that decide whether the base of a diorama looks like a street or like a gray board.
The flat surface of a roadway is the least convincing part of a whole scene on a diorama. The eye looks for something to catch on and finds nothing. A cover solves that problem twice over: it gives the surface its scale, because everybody knows how large it is, and at the same time it offers a place for wear, that is for rubbing, water in the joints and rust, which break the surface up to the eye.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water. Set the cover into the roadway so that it lies flush with the surface, not on it: the simplest way is to cut an opening and sink the part into it. Cast iron looks more faithful after a dark base and rust completed with pigments than after a uniform gray. Dirty the surroundings of a cover more heavily, because that is exactly where water and dirt hold. Suggest rubbing from wheels with a light metallic dry brush over the raised pattern.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the box.
