This is an accessory set in 1:35 from Black Dog related to the British armored Land Rover Defender in the Snatch version, in the form that carries the Barracuda designation. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory for a model. The set belongs to the group of items with which a finished model is moved toward the appearance of a particular machine from a particular mission.
The Snatch is the armored variant of the British Land Rover Defender with an armored cab, which came about for service in Northern Ireland and later made its way into overseas operations as well. The Barracuda designation refers to a camouflage system with which the British army equipped its vehicles; it is an arrangement of elements fitted over the surface of a vehicle whose purpose is not only to break up the outline for the human eye but also to reduce the difference between the vehicle and its surroundings in the thermal spectrum and to limit how hot the surface gets in the sun. A vehicle in this form therefore looks markedly different from a bare Snatch and is very rewarding to model, because it carries different surfaces and different edges and light behaves differently on it.
It is a good idea to paint the camouflage surfaces away from the body and to take the gloss off them, or the whole thing will look like painted sheet metal. Handle the transitions between individual panels with a difference in shade rather than with a sharp line. On vehicles from modern missions, restrained weathering works well: light dust, wear on the edges and the marks of crew hands around the handles and hatches.
