This item is not a kit of the howitzer but an accessory set for modelers who want to bring a model of the American M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzer to life with what belonged to it in the field. The vehicles of artillery batteries carried the crew's kit, tools and supplies anywhere something could be fastened, on exercises and on operations alike.
The M109 is an American tracked 155 mm self-propelled howitzer that has formed the backbone of the artillery of the United States and of many allied armies since the 1960s. The A6 version, designated Paladin, represented a deep upgrade: it received a new, better protected turret, a reworked mounting for the weapon and above all automated fire control with navigation of its own, thanks to which it could stop, fire and change position quickly before the enemy could locate it. It is precisely this ability to fire from short halts and move off at once that makes the Paladin a subject that sits well in scenes from the 1990s and from operations in the Middle East. Characteristic of it are the long, boxy turret with its prominent recoil area and the numerous brackets and baskets on the outer surface.
A model of a self-propelled howitzer looks uninhabited without cargo and kit. Accessories hung on the turret and the hull are therefore part of what gives a scene scale and life, and what at the same time helps break up the large smooth areas of armor. The set suits a diorama with a firing position, with a crew climbing aboard or with ammunition being resupplied, and it combines well with figures in 1:35.
