An injection-molded plastic kit of the American self-propelled anti-aircraft system M163 Vulcan (VADS) in 1:35 scale from Academy. The model captures the rotating turret with the six-barrel rotary cannon on the chassis of the M113 armored personnel carrier. The package contains plastic sprues, photo-etched parts, two variants of tracks and a decal sheet; paints and glue are not included.
The M163 VADS (Vulcan Air Defense System) was an American self-propelled anti-aircraft gun of the Cold War period, which entered service at the end of the 1960s. Its main weapon is the 20 mm M61 Vulcan rotary cannon of the gatling type with a high rate of fire, intended to destroy low-flying air targets; secondarily it also served against ground targets. The whole system was installed on the proven tracked chassis of the M113 carrier, which ensured mobility and the ability to escort mechanized units.
It is recommended to assemble and paint the running gear and the hull interior before closing up, while everything is accessible; handle the photo-etched parts with particular care and bond them with super glue. Use thin cement on the plastic and treat the surface with a primer applied with an airbrush. Leave the cannon assembly and the turret separate for easy painting. Bring out the details with dark washes, suggest the metal parts with careful dry brushing and create the dusting of the running gear with dust pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
