This Aires resin detail set in 1:48 scale adds faithfully rendered landing gear bays to a MiG-23 model. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory that replaces the simplified plastic bays from the box with castings full of structural ribs, piping, wiring and rivets. The set is intended for more experienced modelers with an interest in detail on the underside of the airframe.
The MiG-23, NATO code Flogger, was a Soviet fighter with a variable-geometry wing, that is, with an adjustable sweep angle. Its single-engine design combined high speed with the ability to operate from shorter runways, and in many versions the machine spread to a number of friendly countries during the Cold War.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent from the mold. Separate them from the casting blocks by cutting, not by snapping, and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Sand the resin with respiratory protection or wet. Spray the gear bays with a base coat and bring them out with a wash and a dry brush so that the wiring and the piping show.
It is supplied as an unglued and unpainted resin set. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
