A photo-etched detail set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for the American M3A2 half-track in 1:35 scale. This is a full photo-etched set, not the smaller pre-painted variant, and above all it is not a model of the vehicle: you use the set as an accessory to a plastic kit of the same type and scale, which you have to own.
Injection-molded plastic has its limits in the thickness of a part. Everything that is made of thin sheet, wire or perforated material on the real vehicle comes out too heavy in plastic. That is exactly what photo-etched sheet solves: it replaces sheet-metal folds, clamps, eyes, brackets and small equipment with parts that have a realistic thickness. On a half-track there are a great many such places, because its hull is by its nature a sheet-metal structure with plenty of interior fittings.
Cut the parts off on a hard surface with a sharp knife or photo-etch scissors, never break them out. Make the bends over a metal ruler or in a bending tool, always in one movement. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin in tiny drops. Degrease the etched parts before painting and give them a thin primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth metal. And work in small sub-assemblies so that finished parts are not spoiled during further handling.
