A set of photo-etched parts in brass sheet for a plastic model of the CM11 Brave Tiger main battle tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of a vehicle, but a detailing accessory: it is fitted to a kit under construction and replaces parts that are simplified or too thick in injection molded plastic.
The CM11 came about by joining a turret of older design with a hull of a newer type, which showed on the surface of the vehicle as a multitude of mounts, brackets and stowage baskets added afterwards on the turret and at the rear. It is precisely the baskets and their frames that are the hardest nut for plastic — a real basket is made of thin sections and mesh, and in a kit it tends to end up as a solid wall with a suggested grid. In photo-etched metal the basket is really cut through, and you can even load something into it. The small loops for securing equipment and the frames of the headlights come out the same way: in plastic they are molded raised detail, in brass they are separate parts with a visible gap underneath.
Work out the procedure for the small loops in advance, otherwise they will cost you your nerves. Do not cut the part off completely — bend it first, while it is still held in the fret, and only then separate the last tab. Work over a light-colored surface with a raised edge, ideally with a magnetic dish at hand; you will never find a part two millimeters across once it has flown off into the carpet. Apply the glue by putting a drop of cyanoacrylate glue on a piece of film and dipping the tip of a needle or a piece of wire into it — a drop straight from the bottle is always too big for parts like these. Cut away the molded raised detail left by the original plastic mounts before fitting and sand the surface smooth.
It is an accessory, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
