About product

Morris Bofors C9/B, the early version, 1:35 from the Thunder Model company

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle Morris C9/B in 1:35 scale, in the form corresponding to the early production series. The combination of a truck chassis and a large gun on a traversing mount makes the model a rewarding piece for a display case as well as for a diorama. Thunder Model works this subject out in detail, including the option of building the vehicle in the travel or the firing position.

The real subject

The Morris C9/B, listed in British terminology as a self-propelled carrier for the Bofors gun, came into being on the lengthened chassis of the Morris Commercial C8 artillery tractor with four-wheel drive. On its platform it carried a 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun with all-round traverse. The vehicle had no classic enclosed cab, because it would have prevented the barrel from turning; the crew sat side by side in a low body and even the steering wheel could be folded out of the path of the barrel. For firing the vehicle was raised on massive screw jacks, which gave it a stable base. The vehicles were produced in 1943 and 1944 and served British and Allied units in North Africa, in the Mediterranean and in Western Europe.

Building and painting tips

Think in advance about whether you want the vehicle in the travel or the firing position, because it affects the assembly of the jacks, the mount and the elevation of the barrel. Paint the chassis and the drivetrain before the platform is fitted. Build the gun separately; it has many small parts and it is easier to paint away from the vehicle. British equipment tends to be in a single shade, so the result is decided by fine shading of the surfaces, discreet emphasis of the rivets and the edges and light dust on the wheels and the jacks.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in British equipment of the Second World War in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who collect artillery and air-defense equipment
  • Builders of dioramas where the vehicle will stand out in the firing position with its crew
  • More advanced modelers who do not mind the large number of small parts of the gun

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

On the lengthened chassis of the Morris Commercial C8 artillery tractor with four-wheel drive. On its platform it carried a 40 mm Bofors gun.

A cab would have prevented the barrel from turning all the way round. The crew therefore sat in a low open body and even the steering wheel could be folded out of the path of the barrel.

The differences lie in details of the body, the equipment and the layout of the platform. The exact extent of the differences in this particular tooling is described in the instructions enclosed.

Yes, the real subject was raised on screw jacks for firing. It is a good idea to count on the choice of position right at the start of the build.
