A multi-figure set of a modern assault group in 1:35 scale, from 3D printing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set captures a squad trained to Western practice: load carrying vests with ballistic panels, helmets with covers, headsets over the ears, knee pads and assault rifles with optics. This is what infantry looks like when it moves in pairs, covers its sectors and advances between buildings in short rushes. Compared with figures from the world wars, even the silhouette is different at first glance, because the gear sits tight against the body.
The group works best when the individual figures do not stand in a row. Try setting them out in a triangle with different heights of stance: one kneeling at a corner, a second on the move, a third covering the rear. The difference between looking forward and looking back gives away at once which direction the squad is advancing in, and the viewer reads the scene even without a caption.
The figures come off the printer with very fine relief, so there is no point in sanding them over. It is enough to take off the supports, check the small outlets at the weapon barrels and fill any bubbles with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue and an activator. For a firm seating in the ground it helps to drill a hole in the sole and glue a short pin into it.
Multicolored patterns at a small scale are not painted literally. A looser arrangement of khaki, olive and sand shades, backed up with a dark glaze into the folds, looks truer at viewing distance than the laborious drawing of every patch. The gear is usually a little darker than the uniform, and the insignia then add the final touch.
