A scenic accessory for builders of dioramas in 1:35 scale. It is not a vehicle model and not a part to be fitted to a kit: it is a standalone object of a scene that is built and painted separately and set on the base where the composition calls for it. A trash can belongs to that category of small things that move a diorama from a bare base to a place with a story of its own: standing by a wall, at the entrance to a yard or beside a loading dock, it says at once that the scene shows an inhabited and used setting.
1:35 is the most widespread scale for dioramas with both equipment and figures, so a trash can suits city buildings, a workshop rear area, a courtyard and a present-day scene. A plastic trash can on wheels is an object the viewer reads without explanation, and it takes up little room, so it also comes into its own in small vignettes where a corner of the base needs something credible in it. It also works as a guide to scale: from its size the viewer estimates the dimensions of everything around it.
First clean the parts up carefully and check the mating faces dry. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: cyanoacrylate for resin and printed parts, an ordinary plastic model cement for injection-molded plastic. Before painting it pays to apply a filler primer so that the paint holds and the edges stand out. A trash can looks better when it is not new: go over the base shade with a thin dark wash that runs into the ribs and the gap under the lid, and suggest the edges with a dry brush in a lighter tone. Chipping, remnants of stickers and traces of knocks add credibility to the object. Finally even the surface out with a flat varnish.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
