The Renault UE was a French armored tracked tractor intended to carry ammunition and supplies for the infantry right up into the zone of fire. The crew consisted of two men, who sat very low under domed covers, so the vehicle has an unusually flat silhouette; at the rear it carried a small cargo box and towed a tracked trailer behind it. After 1940 a large number of these machines passed into German service, where the new crews used them for rear-area and supply tasks and adapted some of them for further roles. For a modeler it is interesting precisely for that dual attachment and for dimensions that fit even a small display case.
The vehicle is tiny and its surfaces are rounded and broken up, so cut the decals out as close as you can and divide a larger design into two parts that meet at an edge. Level the base with a gloss varnish and press a marking down with a damp cloth, so that it follows the shape. Because this was a working vehicle that drove through terrain with a load, a pronounced working patina suits it: mud on the tracks, wear in the places the crew pushed off from, and chipped paint on the edges of the covers.
