The set also includes the tracked trailer, which was hitched behind the vehicle and formed a working pair with it. The model is supplied as an unassembled set of plastic parts with decals; the exact range of accessories can differ between editions.
The Renault UE, commonly called the chenillette, was a very small tracked carrier developed in France in the 1930s to supply infantry and artillery units directly in the area of operations. Its crew was two men sitting side by side under low armored covers; the vehicle was unarmed and relied on its low silhouette. It carried its load in the rear bed and in the towed tracked trailer, which markedly raised its carrying capacity. Large numbers of the vehicles were built, and after 1940 many captured examples went into secondary service in all sorts of auxiliary roles.
A small vehicle means small parts, so work on a light surface and glue with thin modeling cement for plastic. Finish and paint the running gear before you fit the tracks and the side covers. Apply a filler primer before painting. Given the size of the model, keep the weathering subtle; a darker wash into the joints, a light lightening of the upper surfaces and dust on the underside of the vehicle and on the trailer work well. The model suits a small scene with two figures particularly well, where its unusual shape comes into its own.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
