Decals for the Sherman Mk V of the Royal Marines Armoured Support Group in Normandy, 1:35 scale from Star Decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
While the Centaur howitzer tanks made up the firepower core of the Royal Marines Armoured Support Group, Shermans also moved among its vehicles in Normandy. It is to them that this set of Star Decals is devoted, and the carrier of the markings is the Sherman Mk V.
Mk V is the British designation for the version the Americans knew as the M4A4. It is marked out by a lengthened hull, which the unusual powerplant made up of several linked engines called for, and in British service it was among the most widespread Shermans of all. With the Marine support group these machines moved alongside the Centaur howitzer tanks and therefore carried the markings of the same formation, not those of ordinary army tank regiments. The group worked in Normandy for only a few weeks, so this is a narrowly bounded subject in time.
The Sherman Mk V has long straight sides on which any departure from the horizontal shows at once, so mark and measure the position of the decal while the film can still be moved. Work on a gloss surface and blot the excess water from the center toward the edges. Once dry, knock the area back to matte and only then put the dust and mud on.
