An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in the model 1941 form, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the early shape of the tank with the smaller cast turret and a smooth hull without applique armor. According to the manufacturer the box offers a choice between individual track links and a track of soft material, so you can pick according to your habits.
The KV-1 was a Soviet heavy tank which, at the start of the German invasion of the USSR, surprised everyone with its strong armor protection. It weighed over 45 tons, carried a 76 mm gun and its frontal armor resisted most German anti-tank weapons of the time. The model 1941 version represents the early production shape with a cast turret. The real vehicle is characterized by its massive angular hull, torsion bar suspension and robust, if slow and unreliable, design. The KV-1 became the basis of a whole family of Soviet heavy tanks.
Start with the running gear; individual track links are easier to assemble and paint before they are fitted onto the wheels. Use thin cement for plastic, apply a primer before painting and spray the paints with an airbrush. With a uniform green, shade modulation works well, followed by dark washes in the recesses and the welds. Dust and mud pigments on the running gear and the sides of the hull will give realistic Eastern Front weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
