An injection-molded plastic kit of the Russian 2S34 Hosta self-propelled artillery system in 1:35 from the maker Trumpeter. The model captures a tracked vehicle with a rotating turret carrying a combined weapon that works as a howitzer and as a mortar at the same time. The kit is meant for modelers with basic experience of building armored vehicles.
The 2S34 Hosta came about through the modernization of an older self-propelled artillery system on a light tracked chassis. The original howitzer was replaced by a 120 mm weapon that can fire along a classic artillery trajectory as well as a steep mortar trajectory, including guided ammunition. The chassis stayed light and mobile, with good cross-country performance, so the vehicle accompanies mechanized units directly in their formation. The crew is protected only by light armor against splinters and small-arms fire.
Assemble and paint the running gear before you close the hull — once it is finished you will not reach the end wheels and the return rollers any more. Fit the tracks only after the base spray job. Over a green base a lighter overspray of the surfaces from above works well, which optically enlarges the vehicle. Build the weathering up gradually: a brown wash into the hollows and joints, then dry-brushing on the edges and finally pigments for mud and dust effects on the running gear and the lower parts of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
