A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale meant for a kit of the American M5 Stuart light tank. The castings imitate improvised add-on armor made of bags filled with sand, of the kind crews put together in the field. The set is neither a kit of the vehicle nor a finished model, but an accessory that is fitted onto a hull and turret already built.
The M5 Stuart was a light tank with a pair of gasoline engines and fairly thin armor, and that is exactly why additional strengthening by makeshift means appeared on vehicles of this class. The resin set offers fidelity of shape and surface that is hard to reach in plastic: the sag of coarse fabric, the seams of the bags, the ropes and the irregular stacking of individual pieces on top of one another. The model thereby immediately takes on the character of a particular vehicle and stops looking like a straight build from the box.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap first, so that the remains of the mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter rather than snapping them off, and sand the surface down; when sanding resin, protect your airways and work wet. It is glued with super glue, as ordinary plastic cement has no effect on resin. Apply a primer before painting. Sandbag cloth looks best over a base that is not uniform in color, into which a lighter dry brush on the edges of the seams and a darker wash in the folds are added. Settle dust and mud from pigments mainly into the lower areas, where they would really collect on the vehicle.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
