A wall reinforced with sandbags, version 3 closes the set of three diorama elements in 1:35 scale. It is a ready backdrop that only needs painting and weathering.
Responsibility details are not available.
The third numbered version of the same subject. It offers a ready vertical element for a scene in which a figure or a vehicle is to find support, cover or a boundary. It moves the modeling work straight on to the surface finish.
The procedure has three stages and it is worth not running them together. First the paint: muted earth tones on the sacking, a cooler gray on the base of the wall. Then the shading, where a thin wash brings out the folds and the joints while a dry brush returns light to the raised edges. Only at the end come the pigments, which turn a clean structure into a place exposed to the weather. Let each stage dry properly, otherwise the layers dissolve one another and the texture loses its readability.
The finished piece stands out on a neutral, unpatterned surface where nothing disturbs the silhouette. When photographing, choose soft side lighting, because that is what draws out the relief of the sacking and the edges of the masonry. If you want to be sure the scene works, try photographing it from the eye height of a figure; this angle reveals whether the composition holds together or whether it is missing a center.
The piece comes without any surface finish; the choice of shades, the degree of wear and the setting of the scene remain entirely up to you.
