The Sd.Kfz. 10/Sd.Kfz.250 Sprocket set by SBS Model is an accessory for 1:35 scale. It replaces the drive sprocket of a half-tracked running gear with a more accurate casting. The light Sd.Kfz. 10 tractor and the light half-tracked carrier Sd.Kfz. 250 derived from its chassis shared their running gear, which is why one set is offered for both types.
The Sd.Kfz. 10 was a light half-tracked tractor that towed light guns and trailers and at the same time served as the basis of further versions. The Sd.Kfz. 250 arose as an armored personnel carrier on the shortened chassis of the same vehicle. The drive sprocket is the most complex part of a half-track's running gear in shape: the teeth engage the guide horns of the track and the whole part is visible from the side and from the front. In injection molding it therefore tends to be simplified and carries a pronounced mold seam that is hard to clean up.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the face wet with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as a glue for plastic will not join resin. Fit the drive sprocket before the running gear is closed up and check that the teeth line up with the pitch of the track, and only then glue it permanently. Painting goes best from a dark base, after which the edges of the teeth are brought out with a dry brush, because that is exactly where the metal was laid bare in service. The set is cut for the Dragon and Das Werk kits, so before buying make sure that you are building one of those.
