An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Pz.Kpfw. II Ausf. L Luchs light reconnaissance tank, that is the Sd.Kfz.123, in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Mirage Hobby. According to the manufacturer the box contains, besides the plastic parts, photo-etched parts for the finer details. It is a rewarding, compact armored vehicle with prominent road wheels.
The Luchs, meaning lynx, was the final and most highly developed member of the Panzer II family of light tanks. It was designed as a fast reconnaissance machine with interleaved road wheels, wide tracks and an open two-man turret with a 20 mm rapid-fire gun. Thanks to its decent speed and low silhouette it served mainly with reconnaissance units. It was built only in small numbers, which makes it all the more popular in collections.
As with any armored vehicle, first assemble the interleaved running gear and the tracks carefully and finish the detail of the hull, and only then close the superstructure and fit the turret. Use thin cement for plastic, bond the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue and apply a primer before painting. Handle the camouflage with an airbrush in layers; fidelity comes from emphasizing the panels with a wash, dust and mud deposits with pigments on the running gear and discreet chipping of the edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
