The Sd.Kfz. 250 was a light German half-track armored car of the Second World War, the smaller and lower relative of the better-known Sd.Kfz. 251. The layout of both is the same: tracked running gear at the rear and a front axle with a pair of wheels on tires, which do not drive the vehicle but steer it. The epithet Greif belonged to one particular vehicle and is not the designation of a variant of the type; in modeling it has settled in as the name of one well-documented subject.
The set offers front wheels in 1:35 scale and a spare wheel to go with them. The tires are done as weighted, that is, with a slightly flattened contact patch such as forms under the weight of a standing vehicle. That very detail is usually the reason modelers replace the kit wheels: a perfectly round wheel gives a model away at first glance, whereas a flattened tire seats it on the surface. Beyond that, the sharper tread pattern and the finer detail on the hub also play their part.
The most important thing is the position of the flat spot: it has to point downward, toward the surface, and both front wheels have to sit down equally, otherwise the vehicle stands crooked. Try the fit dry, therefore, before you reach for the glue. Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest down gently, leaving the tread untouched. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, and choose the glue according to the material stated on the packaging. Rubber parts look more convincing in a muted gray than in black; apply dust and mud from the bottom up, that is, most heavily on the contact patch and the sidewalls.
