A model of a half-track vehicle stands on its tracks, but the viewer's eye most often slides forward, to the wheels. They are fully on show, they have a round outline and any inaccuracy on them stands out. Replacement front wheels offer this part as a separate piece with the tread brought out, so the model is rid of the most conspicuous simplification of the running gear.
The set represents the common off-road tread carried under the Continental name. An off-road tread is more coarsely divided than a road one and stays legible at this scale even after dusting, which suits a vehicle set in a muddy or dusty scene. The Sd.Kfz. 251 and Sd.Kfz. 11 stand on a related chassis and the front axle is unpowered on both, so one set covers both types of model.
Clean the wheel before gluing: cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down. Washing and degreasing follow, and only then the paint. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and the manufacturer's instructions. Both wheels have to have the same steering angle and sit down on the base, otherwise the model looks crooked. Paint the tire dark gray, not black, and run a dry brush with a lighter tone over the edges of the tread. Keep dust and mud at the lower part of the wheel and in the gaps between the tread blocks.
