The half-track carrier put into the hands of the German infantry the ability to keep pace with the tanks. The squad rode under armored protection all the way to the point where it dismounted and did not have to cover the last few kilometers on foot. The combination of tracks at the rear and an ordinary steerable axle at the front was a compromise all the same: it allowed travel over soft ground and at the same time preserved the normal control by a steering wheel that truck drivers were used to.
It is just that front axle that gets new tires in this set. The design corresponds to tires of the Deka brand, one of the several suppliers that took part in the army contract. The casting replaces the original injected parts from the kit of the Border Models company and offers a sharper design and a cleaner shape to the sidewall.
Injected wheels carry a thin line around the circumference where the mold opens, and removing it reliably damages the design. A cast part does not have this problem, because it comes into being in a different type of mold. The grooves are deeper and the edges stay vertical, which shows mainly at the moment when the spot light of a display case falls on the model.
After separating it from the gate we recommend sanding the surface over with the finest paper and degreasing it. Apply the paint in thin coats so as not to clog the grooves. Add dust and mud only at the very end, best of all with a pigment that can be partly wiped off once dry. You will not find the carrier itself in the package; the set completes a model already obtained.
