An injection-molded plastic kit of the German light half-track tractor Sd.Kfz.11 (Leichter Zugkraftwagen 3t) in 1:35 scale from AFV Club. The model captures in detail the combination of steered front wheels and tracked running gear as well as the open body of the towing vehicle. AFV Club is known for its careful rendering of the running gear on this kind of vehicle.
The Sd.Kfz.11 was a German light half-track tractor with a load capacity of about three tons, used in the Second World War above all as an artillery tractor. It served to tow medium guns, from anti-aircraft guns to the light leFH 18 field howitzer, and besides the towed load it also carried the gun crew and their equipment. It was a widespread and versatile means of German artillery, and a range of other specialized variants grew out of its chassis.
On a half-track the running gear is the key: assemble and seat both the front wheels and the rear tracks before you close up and paint the body. It pays to paint and weather the open compartment of the tractor before finishing. Lay the base coat on with an airbrush; you can refine the realistic look with dark washes in the hollows, edge highlighting and above all dust and mud pigments on the wheels, the tracks and the chassis, which on artillery tractors tended to be heavily caked.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
