This photo-etched set in 1:35 scale is aimed at one particular part of the German Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf.C half-track - the side stowage bins above the fenders. It is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory that, on a plastic kit already bought, replaces thick and simplified plastic parts with thin metal. The result is bins with walls of a matching thickness, crisp edges and fine catches. Eduard is a Czech maker that has worked on photo-etched parts for a long time.
The Sd.Kfz.251 was a German armored half-track used during the Second World War. The Ausf.C version carried sheet-metal bins along the sides of the hull above the tracked running gear, for the crew's tools, gear and supplies. In reality these were thin sheet-metal pressings with lids and catches, so it is a typical feature on which the thickness of plastic shows at first glance - especially if you build a model with a lid open or in a diorama where the side of the vehicle is visible.
First cut the plastic bins off the kit and level the surface with a file, so that the metal seats without a gap. Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends in a bender, so that the edges stay straight - on an angular bin every ripple shows. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops, and degrease the metal beforehand. A primer comes before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on metal. Inside the bins a darker shade and a light wash that picks out the edges and corners work well.
This is an add-on set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
