This set of Star Decals is tied to the Spanish Civil War and to the Italian tankettes that appeared on that theater. According to the name these are the CV.33, the CV.35 and the CV.33 Lf flamethrower modification, that is three closely related but distinguishable machines.
The Fiat Ansaldo tankettes were small two-man vehicles without a turret, with a fixed superstructure and machine-gun armament in the front plate. They were based on the British concept of a light reconnaissance machine and Italy produced them in large numbers, because they were cheap to make and easy to transport. In Spain it turned out that against armored vehicles with a gun they were practically defenseless, which influenced the later development of Italian equipment. The Lf version carried a flamethrower in place of the machine gun, and the fuel for it traveled from a carried or towed tank. The conflict falls in the second half of the 1930s and the markings from it differ markedly from the later Italian schemes.
A tankette is tiny, so even a small decal takes up a relatively large part of the visible area and an inaccuracy shows at once. Lay the placing out dry, then, and seat the film onto gloss varnish one piece at a time. The Spanish theme tempts you into pronounced dry dust, but apply it only after matting down, so that the pigment does not take hold unevenly on the glossy places.
