1:35 Stairs (5 pcs)

Stairs in 1:35 scale - a set of five pieces

The item 1:35 Stairs (5 pcs) is a diorama accessory from RT-Diorama. The count of five pieces is given by the name itself. It is not a model of a vehicle or an aircraft but a small architectural element: a flight of stairs that in a diorama links two levels and at the same time gives the scene a natural place for a figure.

Why stairs move a scene on

A diorama that takes place entirely on one level looks flat. Steps are the simplest way to get height into a view: they lift an entrance above sidewalk level, allow a figure to sit, kneel or walk down, and break the monotonous line of a facade. In military views stairs come into their own at house entrances, at cellar doors, on platforms and as an improvised stand for an observer. Five pieces in the set mean you can place them around the whole scene and keep one consistent architectural hand.

Tips for use in the scene

• Set the steps so that the top step lines up with the door threshold; a mismatch in height shows at once.
• Leave clear space for a figure in motion at at least one flight - stairs without a figure are only a shape.
• Place the pieces irregularly; five identical elements in a row give away that they come from one set.
• Expect stairs to draw the eye - put them close to the main subject of the view.
• Deal with the join between the foot of the steps and the paving before the surrounding details.

Who the set is for

It suits modelers who put together city and village views in 1:35 and need a building detail they can repeat. It also serves well to liven up a finished scene that lacks any difference in height.
