A scenic ground for a diorama in 1:35 scale with a stone wall. A wall is the most versatile of diorama backdrops: it belongs to no particular period or country, so with it hardware and figures can be set into practically any display from the Middle Ages to the present.
A stone wall fills two roles in a scene at once. From behind it closes the composition off and keeps the eye from running off the board; from the front it gives the viewer a sense of scale, because the size of the stones immediately gives away how tall the figure beside them is. Both functions can be combined by setting the wall at an angle and letting one end run out of the scene.
Unevenness is the key. Shade the individual stones against one another, whether with patches from a sponge or by painting several pieces in a different tone; in nature no wall is one color. Darken the joints with a flowed-in color and draw the edges of the stones out with a dry brush. At the foot add settled dust and possibly a hint of low greenery, which joins the structure naturally to the ground.
It is supplied as the scenic ground on its own without a finish; the customer adds the models, the figures and the paints for completing the display according to their own subject.
