A set of photo-etched parts from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended for detailing a plastic kit of the German Sturmgeschütz IV assault gun in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle, but an accessory for which you need the matching base model. Check the extent of the set, the number of parts and the particular sections of the vehicle it replaces on the box.
Photo-etched metal sheet replaces parts that injection-molded plastic cannot manage at a realistic thickness because of the technology. On an assault gun these are typically thin sheet metal sections, the grilles over the engine compartment, tool brackets and the small fittings of the hull. The difference shows above all on the outlines and the edges, where plastic looks needlessly heavy.
The Sturmgeschütz IV with the designation Sd.Kfz.167 combined the chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank with the fighting superstructure of the StuG III Ausf.G assault gun. It went into production at the end of 1943, when the shortfall in deliveries of chassis for the existing assault guns had to be made up. The main armament was the 7.5 cm StuK 40 gun with a barrel 48 calibers long, that is the same weapon as on the late StuG III. The vehicles served with assault artillery and antitank units until the end of the war.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and never tear them out. Bend them in a photo-etch bender or between two razor blades and glue them with super glue; on larger areas the gel variant helps. Degrease the metal before painting and go over it with a good primer. Finish and paint the sections that will be hidden inside the hull after assembly before you close the model up.
