The StuG III was a German assault gun built on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. III tank. The Ausf. G version was the most numerously produced variant and carried the StuK 40 gun of 75 mm caliber with a barrel length of L/48. The vehicle had no rotating turret; instead, the weapon was mounted in a casemate superstructure with limited traverse, which lowered the silhouette and the demands of production. Over the course of production of the G version a number of details changed, among them the way the gun, the side walls and the equipment on the hull were protected; late machines therefore differ noticeably from early production.
Accessory sets of this type are fitted as the build goes on, not onto a finished model — most of the interventions concern places that will be closed up later. Read the instructions, therefore, before you begin the build and compare them with the instructions for the basic model. Bend the photo-etched parts in a bending tool or on a sharp edge and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue, and degrease the metal surfaces first and cover them with primer. When painting an assault gun it works well to finish the running gear first and only then close the side walls up; apply washes and pigments only once the base shade has dried.
It is not a model in its own right but an accessory for a plastic kit. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the basic model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
