About product

Decals 1:35 for the Tiger I with the markings 1331

This is a standalone sheet of modeling decals in 1:35 scale, not a kit. The set carries the markings of the Tiger I heavy tank with the tactical number 1331 according to the name, and it is intended to finish a model you already have built and painted.

The base decides

A decal holds only on a smooth, glossy surface. So spray the places where the markings are going with clear gloss varnish and let it cure thoroughly. On matte or grainy paint, air is trapped under the carrier film and a matte silvery rim appears around the design, which modelers call silvering. On dark camouflage it tends to be obvious at first glance and it is very hard to remove afterwards.

Laying and softeners

Cut the design out as close to the printing as possible, dip it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest on a paper towel until it starts to slide freely on the backing paper. Slide it onto the moistened spot, adjust the position with a soft brush and draw the excess water off from the center toward the edges. An intricate surface is a job for a two-part system: apply the setting solution to the base before laying, the softener only onto the laid markings. The film ripples for a while and looks ruined, but as long as it is drying, do not touch it, as it draws itself into the rivets and the engraved lines. If your kit has a layer of Zimmerit, count on the rough surface using up more softener.

Finishing and patina

Once the markings are completely dry, seal them with another coat of gloss varnish and unify the surface with a matte or semi-matte varnish. That makes the edge of the carrier film practically disappear. Only then comes the patina: washes, dust and chipping, which blend freshly laid decals into the rest of the model.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who build the Tiger I in 1:35 scale and want markings other than the box offers.
  • Builders finishing a model after a particular vehicle.
  • Anyone who wants crisp, legible printing of the markings on a model.
  • Collectors of decal sheets for 1:35 scale vehicles.

The package contains decals. The kit, paints, varnishes and softeners are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a sheet of decals, that is, an accessory for a model you build separately. The kit and paints are not part of the package.

Always on smooth gloss varnish. On matte paint, air is trapped under the carrier film and a silvery rim forms around the design.

On a smooth area you can manage without one. Across rivets, edges and rougher surfaces, though, a softener makes the work markedly easier and the result is cleaner.

Check the exact contents of the sheet on the packaging.
