Bravo 6 1:35 U.S. Army Inf. (1)

The opening volume of the figure series of American infantry from the manufacturer Bravo 6 in 1:35 scale. The figures are cast in resin and are supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a kit of equipment but an accessory for models of vehicles, helicopters and for dioramas from the period of the war in Vietnam.

Subject and workmanship

The series works up rank-and-file infantrymen in tropical field dress, with a load-bearing harness, ammunition pouches and light kit. The figures are modeled in action, with a turn of the torso and the head, so they do not look static in a scene. The castings come divided into torso, head, limbs and small fittings, which makes it possible to fine-tune the pose and to think through at once how the figure will follow on from the terrain or from a vehicle. Because it is resin, the folds of the cloth, the straps and the footwear are more legible than on figures packed in with plastic kits.

Building and painting tips

First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent because of the release agent from the mold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, sand the surfaces down wet and protect your airways while sanding resin. Glue with cyanoacrylate super glue and fill the seams at the shoulders and the neck with putty. After a thin primer, build the paint up from a base tone through the shadows to lightened edges. Olive shades complemented by a thin wash into the folds suit a tropical uniform; at the end unify the figure with a matte varnish and add sparing dust on the footwear and the trouser legs.
