About product

An American infantry machine gunner, Vietnam 1968 - a resin figure in 1:35 from Bravo 6

The set holds a cast resin figure of an American infantryman in the role of machine gunner from the period of the war in Vietnam. It is not a kit of equipment but an accessory for dioramas and display cases in 1:35 scale, which will give a scene scale and action. The casting is unpainted and unassembled, so the final look is entirely up to the modeler. Resin figures are marked out by a sharper drawing of the folds of the cloth, of the kit and of the face than is usual with injection-molded plastic.

The real subject

The machine gunner was the bearer of the main fire support in an American infantry squad. Against the other riflemen he carried a markedly heavier load - the weapon itself as well as a supply of ammunition - which showed in the carriage of his body, in the way the straps were worn and in the distribution of the kit on the body. It is precisely these details that the figure captures: the stance, the turn of the torso and the placement of the pouches match an infantryman in the field, not a parade pose. The set is suitable for scenes with American infantry in tropical surroundings.

Building and painting tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent - that way you remove the remains of the release agent from the mold, on which paint would not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutter, not by breaking them away; sand the surfaces down wet and use respiratory protection, because resin dust is an irritant. Join the parts with cyanoacrylate super glue and level any gaps out with putty. Before painting, apply a thin coat of primer, which will unify the surface and reveal small flaws. The uniform and the kit can be built up in acrylics with subsequent toning in oils or with a wash; the face and the hands are traditionally painted with a brush in layers, so that the transitions stand out.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of dioramas on the theme of the war in Vietnam in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want to add a believable human figure to a scene with equipment
  • Collectors of figures with experience of working with resin
  • Advanced modelers looking for a subject on which to practice painting a face and cloth

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is supplied as an unpainted resin casting; both the painting and the assembly are up to the modeler.

With cyanoacrylate super glue. Ordinary cement for polystyrene does not work on resin.

Working with resin calls for cleaning the casting, cutting the casting blocks off and sanding, which is why we recommend it rather to more experienced modelers.

No, it is a figure on its own. Neither a base nor scene accessories are included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
