Replacement wheels for kits of the American light cross-country car Willys, this time in the form of flat tires, that is, with tires without pressure. The name of the set gives four wheels and a spare. Flat rubber spreads out over the ground, the sidewall of the tire bulges and the rim drops lower than is usual on an undamaged vehicle.
The Willys, with a quarter-ton payload and drive to both axles, was unobtrusive but omnipresent. It carried orders, the wounded, officers and a machine gun on a rear mount, it towed light anti-tank guns, and in Burma and in Normandy it got where a truck had no chance. More than six hundred thousand were built, including production under license at Ford, and after the war it became the model for a whole branch of cross-country vehicles. That is exactly why it appears in the overwhelming majority of dioramas with American equipment.
Deflated rubber looks credible when it is visually tied to the base. Apply dust or mud in the shade of the ground around the contact patch and take the gloss off the sidewall of the tire slightly. The vehicle then looks as if it had been standing there for some time.
