The item 1:35 US modern tank crew N°4 closes the quartet of single figures that Black Dog offers for contemporary American hardware. The resin casting is supplied without paint and without a base. The four in the name is a sequence number within the line, not a statement of how many figures are in the box.
The numbered figures are designed so that they do not overlap in gesture or angle on one vehicle. When you build a full crew, spread them across different heights, one at a hatch, another on the hull, a third on the ground beside the track. The scene gains a rhythm that way and the viewer's eye travels across it instead of stopping at a single point.
On a figure about five centimeters tall it is the face that decides the result. Paint it separately from the rest while the figure is still in pieces: a muted base first, then fine brightening of the forehead, the nose and the cheekbones, and finally a thin line into the eye sockets. At this scale the eyes do not have to be drawn literally; a suggestion of shadow is enough. Paint the uniform afterwards, so that no trace of dark wash gets onto the face.
